Ways to decorate your rented property

If you’ve just moved into a rented property and want to smarten it up a bit, but you’re restricted to a certain extent, don’t fret. There are a number of ways you can decorate your new home and still get your full deposit back. You never know, your landlord might even encourage some improvements!

Can I decorate a rented property?

This is often a tricky question as it will depend on your circumstances. The best thing to do is to check with your landlord. To keep yourself way from trouble make sure you do not make any changes to the décor of the property before confirming with a landlord of the property.    

Homeware and accessories – your best bet

You’re likely to be spending a great deal of time in your living room, especially if you live with other people, so this space deserves your effort and attention. When you eventually leave the property, you need to leave no trace of your presence there, meaning removable items – like throws, rugs, books, vases, antiques and retro accessories – are your best bet.

As the areas where you cook and prepare food and where you keep clean, your kitchen and bathroom should also be improved if this is needed. Clearly, you can’t undergo a complete overhaul of these rooms – even if your landlord would allow it, your wallet probably wouldn’t! Instead, erase discoloured grouting using a whitener and buy a new bath mat, shower curtain, and a table runner and placemats in an attractive colour if you have a kitchen table. Other cheap investments like candles and flowers in vases also help a home feel welcoming without breaking the bank.

If you’re looking to add a modern touch and inject life into your new home, window blinds can help you do just that. Add a splash of colour with vibrant roller blinds and add accessories in the same colour to pull the look together. Don’t forget to store the curtains you take down in a safe place so you can install them again when you come to move out. Do the same with any bedrooms that need sprucing up.

Overall, decorating a rented property is all about homeware accessories that will enhance the décor of the place. Don’t clutter it too much as one day you might decide to move into a different property.
